On June 25th, the family frontier volunteers presented a special program on the Holy Family. The role of Joseph was highlighted. The program combined music, art, input on the Holy Family and the role of Joseph, prayer, small group discussion and large group sharing. Additionally, our three young adults who will be attending the CVX-CLC World Young Adult meeting in July, Bethany Vu, Elaine Urena and Danielle Scaramella, shared their experiences of their families and their reflection on the Holy Family. Their talks incorporated their own spirituality with the spirituality of their own families and also what aspects of the Holy Family inspired them. At the end of the meeting, participant summary words, included gratitude, love, patience, inspiring, heart full of prayer, joy, liveliness and, among other words, being able to reflect on the faith and obedience of Joseph. There were several members of CLC Canada that attended the meeting, as well as people from all over the United States. Participants also expressed appreciation for the candid sharing of our young adults.
When participants met in small groups, participants identified that some family experiences were positive, but there were also some situations that were difficult. Members were able to reflect on their experiences and recognize how their experiences affected their development. As part of the process, a prayer for our families was read by one of the frontier members, Sarah Won. Please click to hear the prayer. The prayer was written by Barb Rudolph, CLC Exco liaison to the family frontier.
Overall goals of the family frontier are to:
Show openness, compassion, respect and sensitivity to people who belong to diverse family networks. Provide opportunities to share cultural similarities and differences amongst our national community.
Support, collaborate and create formation processes for couples and families. Bring Ignatian spirituality, the Spiritual Exercises and discernment to our families. Provide opportunities for therapists, counselors and directors to share ways to integrate spirituality with psychological/social needs.
Support existing programs such as the Vietnamese marriage renewal program as well as programs for people with special needs such as the elderly, the disabled, or families with identified needs.
Assist with events that enhance community building and interaction within the national CLC community. Events may include programs open to all members of our community, national Masses, special prayer services and other events.
The frontier is looking for additional people to join the frontier working group. If you are interested in joining the frontier, please email [email protected].
This video was prepared as part of the celebration of the 500th year of the conversion of St. Ignatius. Using leggo characters, this video is a 6 minute history of St. Ignatius. Audacious Ignatius is an appealing video produced for kids but can be enjoyed by adults as well.
